About the Brisbane Water Oyster Festival
The Brisbane Water Oyster Festival was established in 2000 by the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce to showcase the beautiful waterways of the Woy Woy Peninsula and our largest primary industry, the oyster farming industry.
Over the years we have raised funds for Cancer Council NSW for breast cancer research. Last year, our Queen entrants raised a staggering $90,000 which is an outstanding effort. On the day of the festival, the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce raised $13,000 for our local Gosford Hospital for a Coloposcope Machine which can detect early cervical cancer in women. This was achieved by donations from NSW Premier Christina Keneally, the wonderful ladies from the Inner Wheel North Gosford, author Judy Nunn and the sponsors of the Celebrity Oyster Competition.
The festival has become so successful we are now holding it over two days. Each day will commence with a full program of entertainment including StarFM 104.5 live from Ettalong; on stage bands and street entertainment with lots of amusement rides for the little ones.
It’s on again the popular Star FM ‘How Many Oysters Can You Eat in 30 Seconds’ with trophy and major prizes of a lunch for two on Sydney Harbour on Captain Cook Cruises sponsored by Travelworld Deepwater Plaza Woy Woy OR a Scenic Flight over Sydney and the northern beaches sponsored by Sydney Aviators Bankstown Airport
See the ‘Woodchopping Spectacular’ right in the heart of the festival at the woodchop arena. Watch the woodchoppers swing their axes, cutting through logs in just minutes.
